HISTORY AND WHO BENEFITS
From Golf to Cross Country, Volleyball, Basketball, Curling, Badminton, Rugby, Soccer, Track and Cheerleading - for young men and women, we want to help reduce the expenses of the various school sports teams so that any youth can participate in the athletic programs in the Bow Valley. Schools that have participated in subsidized funding, now or in the past, for their school athletic programs include Canmore Collegiate High School (CCHS), Lawrence Grassi Middle School (LGMS), and Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy. Every youth should have the opportunity to gain the benefits associated with being an active participant in team sports. Over $430,000.00 was raised during the 10 year events program.
Sept 2015: An update for everyone regarding "Dreams for Teams", after 10 years of our "events" we are taking a break from event planning.
Our mission remains, so we ask everyone to help continue the financial support when you are looking to make a donation to support our community youth. Thank you to everyone for their support these past 10 years - we could not have achieved the results we did without all of our sponsors, donors, participants and volunteers!
Academic Scholarships: In the past, our events also established funding to provide Academic Scholarships to the Top Male and Females Athletes. Students that have received scholarships for post secondary education were from Canmore Collegiate High School and Banff Community High School.
Since 2015, each top athlete now at CCHS continues to receive a $500.00 Academic Scholarship personally from Gary and Kay Anderson. Scholarships have been awarded in 2024 to: Jordan Lakusta, CCHS Female Athlete of the Year 2024, and to Jay Porter, CCHS Male Athlete of the Year 2024 Two new scholarships were created in 2021 to honour a former athlete (Spencer Postman) who tragically passed away in April 2021. There was one recipient this year, so the 2024 "Spencer Postman Memorial Scholarship" recipient is Louise Gosse who is also the CCHS Wolverine’s Honour Award winner: Each recipient received a $500 scholarship as well. Search Institute, Minneapolis, Minnesota states 40 Developmental Assets that are building blocks of healthy development that help young people grow up to be heathly, caring, and responsible. The average young person only experiences 18 of the 40 assets. We can significantly increase assets for our youth to achieve, through athletics. Some key ones are as follows:
*Young person spends three or more hours per week in sports at school
*Youth to receive support from three or more nonparent adults (ie athletic coaches)
*Both parents and teachers (teachers are their coaches) encourage the young person to do well
*Young person reports that "my life has a purpose"
*Young person is optimistic about his or her personal future
*Young person seeks to resolve conflict nonviolently
*Young person's best friends model responsible behavior
*Young person perceives that adults in the community value youth
These are just some of the benefits to youth. If we invest in our youth, we all reap the rewards.

Partnership with KidSport, Bow Valley Chapter
"Dreams for Teams" is partnering with KidSport in the Bow Valley to help spread the word about the positive impact that KidSport is now making in our valley. KidSport helps remove the barriers to children playing organized sports by offering up to $500 per child (by application) to pay for the registration fees associated with organized sports. The main goal of the Gary Anderson Golf Tournament FORE Kids is to help significantly reduce the overall costs of organized sports within a school setting, and KidSport helps individual children get funding to pay the registration fees for participation in those sports. Our mutual goal is to get more kids playing organized sports and our efforts compliment each others programs! See their website for more information and ways to support their program: http://www.kidsport.ab.ca/index.php?page=bowvalley_home
